Munster University of Technology is a multi-campus university of technology, established in January 2021 through the merger of Cork Institute of Technology and Tralee Institute of Technology.
Munster University of Technology is Ireland’s second university of technology, following Dublin Institute of Technology. It contributes to the region by offering academic programmes that support student development, education and research. MTU is the first new university to be established in the south-west of Ireland since 1845 and has a wide-ranging and far-reaching impact on the region. It operates six campuses in Cork and Kerry in the south-west, offering over 140 degree programmes to a student body of 18,000.
MTU’s first strategic plan, ‘Our Shared Vision 2022–2027’, was launched in October 2022. It sets out ambitious goals: to make MTU a truly great, globally competitive university. Sustainability, alongside equality, diversity and inclusion, are the core pillars of this strategy.
Over the next five years, MTU will focus on creating the best possible experience for students and staff. This will be achieved by fostering academic excellence and expanding research, innovation and entrepreneurship, which in turn will help drive social and economic development in the south-west of Ireland.
